We had (what I thought was) a very bad crossing of the Drake Passage last night and into the morning. The swells were from 16 to 19 1/2 feet for a few hours and that is not half bad according to the experts. Apparently we left Antarctica early so we could try to beat the weather in the Drake but…..we hit it for sure. But since we pushed through at a fast pace, we are arriving in Puerto Williams early.
We woke up and things were a bit calmer and we were able to move around the ship. We spent the morning packing up and getting ready for the last few hours on board. As we sit in the panoramic lounge this morning, we can see land that is green and beautiful calm waters.
We arrived very very early to Puerto Williams and our flights do not depart until tomorrow. We have been floating around Beagle Channel for a couple of hours now as there is another Silverseas ship in our spot. When they leave, we will be docking and they have indicated that we can go into town. Our crew of 12 will be renting a car and going into town for dinner. They will open the boarding doors are 9p.m. So we have still a few hours to wait.
We finished a fun game of Bingo and a very competitive game of trivia. Since that was our last game offered, we then went to spend our Silverseas points. Can’t tell you what we bought but it will make two little girls happy :).
At 6 p.m. we will be heading into the Explorer lounge for the last time for the farewell from our Expedition Team. One of the expedition team members is an artist and she drew a beautiful picture on a voyage chart and it was auctioned off for a lot of money. The money went to the crew fund.
It was a great recap and since we are in town early, we are getting off the ship to explore Puerto Williams and meet up with the crew for a drink. It’s 10:07 pm and we are still waiting to get off.
Cici at sea signing off. …
